Dan Bolin Undergraduate Student Awards

Make A GiftThe Dan Bolin Award is presented to outstanding undergraduate students who are juniors in the College of Natural Science in recognition of their leadership qualities, community service and academic abilities. The award is named in memory of former College of Natural Science student Dan Bolin.

Recipients are chosen by the CNS Student Advisory Council from nominations submitted by students in CNS.  Awards are presented at the annual alumni awards held in conjunction with Science University each April.

The Dan Bolin award recipients receive a one-time scholarship funded by the CNSAA Endowed Scholarship Fund. Your gift to this fund will enable the College of Natural Science to grow the scholarship amount granted to future award winners.

 

2011 Dan Bolin Award Recipients

Tiffany Abrahamian is a Nutritional Sciences major from Rochester Hills, Michigan. Tiffany is a member of MSU’s Cross Country and Track teams. She was appointed to the Student Athlete Advisory Committee and has volunteered with Athletes in Action. She has been a member of PreSOMA and has been volunteering with the MSU Stress Fracture Study since her freshmen year. She has volunteered at both Ingham Regional Medical Center and Sparrow Hospital as well as for the French for Kids summer camp which utilizes skills from her second degree program in French. She was also recently appointed to the Nutritional Sciences Advisory Committee. Her experience in the Tanzania Study Abroad program has provided her with an increased interest in Public Health. She is a member of the Honors College and has maintained a 3.69 GPA while at MSU.

Muray Darling is a Physiology major from Jeddo, Michigan. Muray is a member of the National Society for Collegiate Scholars and Phi Sigma Pi. She is the current Treasurer of the MSU Pre-Veterinary Medical Association as well as a research assistant for Dr. Robert Bowker who studies equine rehabilitation, neurobiology and physiology. Muray has volunteered with the American Red Cross, Geiger Veterinary Clinic, North River Animal Hospital, youth sports camps, Relay for Life, March of Dimes, St. Jude’s Hospital, and the American Society of Animal Science. Darling has maintained a 3.88 GPA and looks forward to continuing her education in veterinary school after she completes her degree.

Susanna Rori is a Zoology major from Commerce Township, Michigan. Susanna has been actively involved with the Pre-Veterinary Medical Association, participating in their sponsored volunteer activities as well as their social gatherings. She was elected to the Executive Board and participated in the American Pre-Veterinary Medical Association National Symposium in 2010. Rori is also involved with the MSU Dressage Club and presented at one of their general meetings on her original research. She has worked for the MSU Research and Teaching Technical Support team as a research aid, and she currently works as a kennel attendant and veterinary assistant at the Vet Select Animal Hospital. As a member of the Honors College, she has maintained a 3.93 GPA.

Wendy Stein is a Nutritional Sciences major from Troy, Michigan. She is currently the Nutritional Sciences Club Vice President, the Jewish Student Union Community Service Chair/Tzedek President, and a Nutritional Sciences Peer Advisor. She is also a member of the Running Club, Yoga Club, Vegetarian & Vegan Group and Psi Chi. She was a member of Tower Guard and an Undergraduate Teaching Assistant, and has participated in Hillel’s Leadership Institute. She has worked as a research assistant in Dr. Antonio Nunez’s lab which conducts research on neural and endocrine control of circadian and seasonal rhythms. She currently works as a service center representative on campus and continues to participate in many community service activities. As a member of the Honors College, she has maintained a 4.0 GPA.
