Science University 2012

April 13-14, 2012

Various locations on the campus of MSU

Schedule

Just one of the “classes” being offered this year. . .

“Evolution of Games that Microbes Play” presented by Dr. Christoph Adami, Professor of Microbiology & Molecular Genetics

When microbes compete for limited resources, they often engage in chemical warfare using bacterial toxins. In this “suicide bomber” game, bacteria sacrifice themselves for the good of the group, a type of competition that can be understood in terms of evolutionary game theory (EGT). The emerging game play can be quite intricate, and can result in communities that engage in a type of “rock-papers-scissors” dynamics that has no winners.

Check our Schedule of Classes for the full schedule, including tour options, a planetarium show, and a list of  “class” offerings.
