RISE offers two seminars (NSC 192 and NSC 292) as part of the Specialization in Environmental Studies. These distinct RISE seminars allow students to explore environmental issues through field trips, guest speakers, community projects and a senior level integrative experience.
Fall Semester:
NSC 192, Section 001, 1 credit
Title: Introduction to Environmental Issues
Day/Time: Tuesday 3:00 – 4:20 pm
Description: Students will study environmental issues in an integrated and multidisciplinary approach such that they may gain an appreciation for both the interconnectedness and also the complexity of our environment.
Spring Semester:
NSC 292, Section 001, 2 credits
Title: The Environmental Consequences of the Food We Eat.
Day/Time: Tuesdays 10:20 am-12:10 pm
Description: This class is designed for students to investigate the environmental, social, political and economic consequences of the food we eat. The focus of this course is NOT dieting, weight loss, or nutrition. Rather, this course is about exploring how our food choices may contribute to either the degradation or the healing of our planet. As a seminar course you will be expected to actively participate in class discussions and contribute content on a weekly basis.

NSC 390 1-3 credits
Title: Special Problems

Description: Faculty directed individualized study of an interdisciplinary problem.
